Benign Mesothelioma

Benign mesothelioma is a a noncancerous tumor of the pleura (lining of the lung and chest cavity). Beneign mesothelioma (or nonmalignant mesothelioma) is normally a localized tumor. It can grow and compress the lung, causing the shortness of breath. Other symptoms can include: 

  • Chronic cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest pain

Benign mesothelioma is most often detected through testing. This can include a chest X-ray, CT scan, or open lung biopsy. When a solitary tumor is found and treated promptly, benign mesothelioma can normally be overcome successfully with surgery.
